Insect Issues by your pond:

Aerating fountains will help eliminate insects.

During the warm months it is so nice to sit outside and enjoy the water. There is nothing worse than having this interrupted by insects and mosquitoes either buzzing around your head or biting you. This is an issue that can also be dangerous with the threat of West Nile virus (WNv) carried by mosquitoes. West Nile virus (WNv) is a mosquito-borne illness that can be transmitted to humans by the bite of an infected mosquito. Reducing mosquito populations helps to reduce the spread of WNv and other infections spread by mosquitoes, thus reducing the risk of disease in humans.

Why Mosquitoes like ponds:

Most insects are attracted to water and mosquitoes in particular as they breed in stagnant water. Mosquitoes lay their eggs in water that is stagnant, shallow and high in organic matter. Mosquitoes complete three stages of their life cycle in the water (egg, larva and pupa) in about 4 to 14 days. As a result, standing water must remain stagnant for a minimum of 4 days in order to support the mosquito’s life cycle.

Solutions for your pond:

Arbrux Aerating Fountain restore and maintain a healthy pond

The first thought is to try to eliminate insects with chemicals. This isn’t always a great solution as adding chemicals to the water could be harmful to other wildlife and the environment. By adding an aerating fountain you disrupt the surface of your pond water. By disturbing the stagnant water with circulating water you hinder the insect’s ability to nest or lay eggs or reproduce. This prevents your pond from being an insect breeding ground. Arbrux aerating fountains are easy to install, require little maintenance and offer you a pretty water feature while providing the functionality required to keep insects away.

Lake Fountain with Jade Nozzle – 3HP

Floating lake fountains bring such a visual aesthetic to your pond or lake. Often when we receive inquiries about our lake fountains we are asked for the performance details of the fountain “Height, Diameter, Volume & Amperage Draw”. All of these factors are key points for making a decision about a fountain.

Is Bigger Really Better?

While discussion fountain needs with our customers, we frequently hear the old adage, “bigger is better” and that size matters. While this many be the case for many, there are other important considerations to take into account. Big tall fountains certainly can add the WOW factor to your lake or pond, but if the pattern is misty or unrecognizable and the wind knocks down the height with even the slightest breeze, then are you really achieving the look you’re after? Another consideration is to ensure the fountain size is not to small or too big for the size of pond or lake. When you put a small fountain in a large pond or lake it can get swallowed visually by its surroundings. Likewise, when you put a large fountain in a smaller lake or pond, you run the risk of emptying the water levels.

Better Spray Patterns Mean Better Fountains

This fall it was our mandate to improve our spray pattern and ensure its quality for our lake fountains. “Every year, we evaluate our process and listen to our customers. “We’re continuously looking for opportunities to stay at the forefront of design and be able to provide our customers with an outstanding product,” said Peter Barbe, President, Arbrux Manufacturing. “Our updated spray patterns, new brochures and image gallery offer customers the ability to make an informed decision as to which is the right aesthetic statement they wish to make in their lake or pond.” We certainly believe that a quality defined spray pattern that can stand up when it is breezy certainly offers customers great value.

Pond Aerators help the ponds ecosystem which will prevent odours.

Pond aerators add oxygen to a pond which is critical for the pond ecosystem. When the ponds ecosystem is out of balance typically caused by too many nutrients in the water and insufficient oxygen. This can lead to many different issues such as odours, algae, excessive aquatic plants and murky/cloudy water. If a pond does not have sufficient oxygen levels then noxious odors may occur as the breakdown of organic matter at the bottom of the pond turns from an aerobic to an anaerobic process which is slower and results in hydrogen sulfide. Normally a pond with a sufficient dissolved oxygen level will be able to break down and decompose the organic matter before it can be utilized by pond plants, however, ponds with lower oxygen levels will be slower to react and the organic matter will build. Eventually a situation will occur in which the break down of the waste will put a such a strain on the ponds oxygen level that the marine life, like fish, will become negatively impacted, due to the lack of dissolved oxygen available to them. In extreme cases there can be such low oxygen levels that fish kills occur. With a floating pond aerator the water remains oxygenated and allows organic matter to breakdown preventing pond odour. To see how an Arbrux pond aerator can help your pond ecosystem contact us.

Pond Algae is caused by an overload of nutrients, too much sunlight and low oxygen levels. This can create issues for your pond such as green pond water, pond odour and create a mosquito haven.

An abundance of nutrients and low oxygen levels are easily controlled in your pond. However excess sunlight is not easily controlled. To control the amount of nutrients in your pond remove surface debris, algae and harvest the surplus of aquatic vegetation. Low pond oxygen levels are the most significant factor. This can be improved easily by adding a floating pond aerator or pond fountain. If your pond is small without many fish a floating pond fountain may be sufficient to provide adequate oxygen levels. If you have fish and have persistent algae problems or green pond water then a higher volume floating aerator may be the better choice.
